A few of their favorite things

Favorite Things – Children’s Photography

As our kiddos grow so do their interests, one moment they are in love with some flashy cartoon and within a month or two they are onto the next thing. There are some things that seem to stick around though. Their most favorite stuffed animal or that filthy silky blanket that you have just stopped making excuses for :).  Most of the time those things are a nuisance, always delaying bedtime or somehow getting lost.

For my son it’s his Dino. This isn’t just any stuffed dino either, this was my husband’s when he was a child. It has somehow remained in great condition. Aaron cannot sleep without this dino and has to take it anywhere that he could be staying the night. It’s been this way since he was around 18 months old.

I wanted to photograph my son with his favorite things so that I can look back at his 6 year photographs and remember what he was like. I didn’t just want to capture his adorable face, I wanted to be able to look back at these photos and have memories flood my mind.  I want to remember the countless times my husband and I have run around the house at bedtime flipping every cushion trying to find his most prized possession.  I want to remember how he drags it out into the living room and cuddles with it on the couch every morning. These little things are so important because I don’t know when he will stop. One night dino will be left out in the living room at bedtime and it wont phase him. I’m going to miss this time in his life.

This is also how I plan for my children’s photography sessions. I ask all of my clients to bring in what is special to their children right then, even if it’s the ugliest stuffy or dirtiest blanket :).  Lakeville Minnesota Family Photographers

My kids have outgrown their stuffed buddies, and I treasure the photos I have of them back when they were inseparable. Lifestyle photography tells the entire story in a way posed portraits cannot!ReplyCancel
