Happy Birthday, Zoë!

Zoë’s first birthday cake smash!

Cake smash sessions are pretty close to to the top of the list of things that I love to photograph but they don’t always go as you would expect them to.  Believe it or not, most babies do not like cake… They are pretty use mild foods so the sweetness of the cake is often too much for their little taste buds. 😛   It’s also a weird texture for them to figure out!   Lately, I’d say it’s 50/50 on what babies love their cake smashes and which really dislike it.  Zoë wasn’t so sure about her cake, she very delicately took little bites but never went crazy with it.  She did enjoy putting her feet in the cake though :).

Because the cake smash can be iffy, we always save that for last when photographing these babies. Plus they are super messy! But I assure you, your babies skin will be very conditioned with only the best buttercream :).

First I always like to photograph them with their most favorite things. In her case it was her favorite book Tails and her stuffed cat and bunny.

Thank you  for the custom cake, Cakewalk of Northfield, MN for yet another beautiful smash cake! They always do an amazing job for me!  Did you know that each first birthday photography session includes a custom cake?
